The Jon Davis Excellence in Professionalism Award recognizes the honoree’s integrity, passion and dedication to the highest standards in the practice of law.  The award’s recipients understand that the legal profession is a higher calling imbued with noble and aspirational goals of service—to clients, to the community and to the profession.

Jon Davis was a natural leader of the legal profession and the Association. He joined the REBA Board of Directors in 1988 and remained on the Board until 2012, serving as REBA's President in 1995. Jon led the Association’s initiatives combating the unauthorized practice of law for nearly 20 years and served as Chair of the REBA Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee during the Association's Closings, Ltd (1993) and Colonial Title and Escrow (2001) litigation. In 2002, Jon received the Association's highest honor, the Richard B. Johnson Award, and in 2013, he became the first recipient of the REBA Excellence in Professionalism Award, later re-named the Jon Davis Excellence in Professionalism Award.

 

2018 Recipient:

‚ÄčChristopher S. Pitt, Esq. 

Chris Pitt, retired Senior Associate at Robinson & Cole, LLP, concentrated his practice in commercial and residential real estate matters, and represented institutional and private lenders, and commercial and residential real estate developers, purchasers, and sellers. With broad experience in land use aspects of Massachusetts municipal law, Chris acted as local counsel on a variety of development issues, including zoning, subdivision control, and construction permitting.  In his forty-year career as a real estate lawyer, Chris developed significant expertise in foreclosure matters, railroad titles, and complex beach rights and access issues, especially on Martha’s Vineyard. Chris also regularly assisted other attorneys as an expert witness in real estate disputes and litigation.  A former president of REBA, Chris was a former co-chair and long-time member of the Association’s Standards & Forms Committee.  He also served as a member of the Real Estate Finance Association, and the real estate sections of the American, Massachusetts and Boston Bar Associations.  In addition, he is a member of the Abstract Club and has regularly chaired a seminar on resolving complex real estate title issues for MCLE.  Chris is a graduate of Williams College and Boston University School of Law.
